National Pit Bull Awareness Weekend!

You guys, today was maybe the best day EVER! I got to go to the park for hours, and it was full of people who wanted to love on me and dogs who wanted to let me sniff them! It was a little overwhelming since I've been cooped up with minimal excitement for awhile, but I was very well behaved and I really enjoyed myself.

Love-A-Bull put the event on, Deb from The Morning X on 101X MC'd, and Rescue Ink and Shorty the Pit Boss were there too!

The Rescue Ink guys are really passionate about pitties like me.

They're intelligent and articulate-- just what we need in pit bull advocates!

That's Shorty, from Animal Planet's The Pit Boss!

And this is me, my foster boy, and Shorty together! Shorty took pictures with all of his fans and answered questions from the crowd.

Dogs of all breeds were all over the place-- just as it should be!

DOGS are a girl's best friend, obviously.

There I am, there I am!

I met Deb from 101X and she gave me this cute bandanna so everyone who sees me will know I'm up for adoption. Is she a real Dog Lady, or what?

An Update On Me

Well, it has been quite a journey for me the past few months. I am absolutely loving living in a home where people adore me and treat me like a member of the family. I was obviously meant for family life! I've taken to it like a duck to water. My intelligence and sweetness made it really easy. Not only am I completely house and crate trained, but I get along really well with everyone else here. I don't have any issues with men and I love kids although I am a bit much for very small kiddos with my muscular frame and solid feet. I'm not a huge believer in personal space. I'm a believer in snuggles! I try really hard to respect what others want, though. Sometimes I just get so excited at the prospect of lovin'! I also get along very well with other dogs. I'm a bit fascinated by cats but don't have an aggressive bone in my body when it comes to them or anything else and I listen very well when I'm instructed to leave the kitties alone.

I'm even respectful of the cute rat who lives here!

Basically, I love everyone I meet, and everyone who meets me loves me too!

Speaking of meeting great people, I was lucky enough to find a really fantastic group of pit bull advocates, Love-A-Bull! You can read all about them here. They're helping support my foster mom, get the word out about wonderful me, and get me vetted through two other fabulous organization, Emancipet and Animal Trustees of Austin. I've been spayed and microchipped and am up to date on my shots. The vet thinks I'm probably about two years old.

Unfortunately, we did discover that during my time on the streets I contracted heartworms. Heartworms are very serious but easily preventable parasites that are dangerous and costly to get rid of. Left untreated, they can be fatal. That's why it's so important for me and all my doggy friends to be on a monthly preventative, which I am happy to report I now am!

Thanks to my good friends at Love-A-Bull and Animal Trustees of Austin, in July I started treatment and in late August I had my last shot. During treatment, and for four to six weeks afterward, it's vital for us dogs to be kept quiet to keep our heart rates low, so I have just started the last leg of my journey to perfect health-- six more weeks of "bed rest".

I am happy to announce that although I'm keeping a low physical profile for awhile longer, I am ready to be adopted! So if you're looking for a smart, even-tempered, incredibly sweet and completely adorable dog to be the best of friends with, please look in the sidebar for information on how to contact my foster mom!

I'm such a smart girl!

I've only been in my foster home a little over a week and already I've learned how to sit and I'm perfectly crate trained! I'm nearly house trained too. I also know that when it's time to eat, it's time for me to go to my crate. I'm such a smart girl!

My Story

It was a cloudy Saturday in April when I found myself dodging cars at the side of a busy road. When one car pulled over and stopped, I wasn't sure whether I would see a friendly face behind the wheel or not. When the door opened, I immediately recognized the kind eyes of a dog lover. With a big smile I ran right over to meet my new friend. It felt so good to be pet and shown affection! I had lots of kisses to give as well. I jumped into the car and knew my new life had begun.

I had recently become a mom when I was found, but my puppies were no longer with me. My new foster mom tried to find my old family, but I was not microchipped and had no collar or tags. Even though she reported me and put up fliers, no one ever came looking for me.

I love where I am now, but I'm eager to find my forever family. Could it be you? Are you looking for a sweet, beautiful, smart girl like me? Let's meet and find out!
